1997 CHILD & FAMILY Statistics & Outpatient Services

* The agency served 1,979 youth and families, a 2.4% decrease from 1996, due to unexpected turnover in clinical staff; and provided a total number of 20,251 hours of service, an increase of 8.4% over 1996

* New child/family admissions averaged 100 per month, with 1,225 new clients served in 1997

* Of the families served last year, 1,029 involved youth from 5-12 years of age

* 88% served ranged from 0-18 years of age

* 55% of all clients were male; 45% were female

* The Center's Medical Director/Psychiatrist and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) together provided medical services to an average of 90 clients (both new & existing) every week, which resulted in a 162% increase over 1996, with both staff report difficulty in keeping up with the increasing demand for these services

* 51% of Center families report incomes of less than $10,000 a year 36% of Center families report incomes between $10,000 and $29,999 a year A total of 87% of families report incomes of less than $30,000 a year * 99% of youth and families served live in Sedgwick County

* 100% of United Way dollars directly support the provision of outpatient services to troubled children and families, and include individual, family and group therapy; psychological evaluation, testing and assessment; on-site counseling to youth at Wichita Children's Home, Salvation Army Booth Family Services and the Healthy Children Center; school-based services at sites in Wichita, Andover & Derby; the Community Youth Academy Gang Prevention Program; Wichita Collaborative Psychology Internship Program; and Field Practicum Training for the KU School of Social Welfare.
